EPA - Annual Report 2008

December 2009.

The EPA published their Annual Report 2008 in December 2009.

The report states that the EPA conducted 1,800 audits and inspections in 2008 and brought 20 prosecutions against companies and individuals to court.

The report also shows that Ireland's Greenhouse Gas emmissions fell by 0.3% - presumably due to the economic downturn.  However, levels recorded from household emissions increased.

In 2008, the EPA received 52 IPPC License applications.  Objections were received for 37 of these (71%).  20 Waste License applications were received which also received 12 objections (60%).  Final decisions were processed by the EPA in relation to 40 of the 52 IPPC License applications.

EPA Inspectors conducted 124 audits of IPPC Licensed premises and Waste Facilities and 652 insepctions.  616 non-compliance notices were issued.  The main non-compliances related to odours, waste management and emissions.

The EPA have been allocated an extra 50 posts which now brings its current staff levels to 340.
