Multi Regional Waste Collection Permit

The new Waste Management (Collection Permit) Regulations S.I. 820 of 2007 and Waste Management (Collection Permit) (Amendment) Regulations S.I. 87 of 2008 came in to effect on the 1st June 2008.
Anybody, other than a local authority, who collects waste for the purposes of profit or reward, is required to hold a Waste Collection Permit. This legislation, replacing the 2001 Legislation, allows persons to apply for a Multi Regional Waste Collection Permit. In the case of a Multi Regional Permit the holder is permitted to transport and collect waste within the local authority area(s) permitted. This can include, if requested, all ten Nominated Authority areas that would essentially cover collection activities in the entire Republic of Ireland.
A Multi Regional Waste Collection Permit is a permit issued by a Nominated Authority representing the Region in which the principal waste collection activity will take place i.e. the Region in which the greatest quantity of waste will be collected or the greatest number of premises will be served. Lehane Environmental hold a Multi Regional WCP as issued by Cork County Council Ref CK-WCP-08-0574-01 for the entire 26 counties.
This Waste Collection Permit is granted for a period of five years. The Permit will expire after the five year period if a review is not initiated within the five year period at least 60 days before the expiry date.

This Waste Collection Permit was reviewed in June 2010 and is updated regularly to include additional Waste Treatment Facilities.
