Deco Paints Directive - Paint Disposal

The Irish Decorative Paints Regulations (
S.I. 199 of 2007) oblige vehicle refinishers to
• Use compliant products
• Use HVLP spray guns
• Use gunwashing equipment
• Meet requirements for:
Management, Training, Storage & Waste
Lehane Environmental can supply necessary UN Approved Packaging for onsite storage and offsite disposal of paint related waste complete with Haz. ID Labels (Warning Diamonds, UN Number, etc) We can also supply Spill Kits for immediate action on spills of waste paint.
Lehane Environmental has extensive experience in spray booth cleaning and waste paint disposal. We can also provide for the disposal of both liquid & solid VOC paint waste (as listed below).
Storage Requirements for Solvent Containing Products and Waste:
• Use suitable containers - check for
leaks
• Close containers properly
• Label waste containers -
• No drains that could be affected by
a spill in VOC areas
• Keep a spill kit
• Secure ventilated storage area
Waste Requirements
Both liquid & solid VOC containing waste must be collected and transported by a Permitted Waste Collector and disposed of in full compliance with Environmental Legislation. Certificates of Disposal (&/or other records C1 Form, etc) must be retained.
VOC waste includes:
waste gun-wash, leftover paints, waste cloths/rags/paper containing VOCs,
unused bodyfiller, waste spraybooth filters, etc.
No solvent waste is to be released to Municipal Waste Landfills, Drains or Ground.
Insurance companies are responsible for engaging the services only of Vehicle Refinishers who are registered –
based on reputation risks to themselves.
The legislation applies to all Vehicle Refinishers - there is no threshold.
Those found guilty of an offence under this legislation can be subject to a fine of up to €3,000, or 12 months
imprisonment, or both.
